Data Sources & Notices

VizGolf's course directory combines courses added by players, courses imported from a commercial golf-course API, and a base layer built from open data. The open-data sources below are used under licenses that ask us to name them and to pass along their disclaimers. We carry these notices for every course record drawn from those sources, whether or not the license strictly requires it in a given context.

Golf course locations, names and addresses in our base directory layer are derived from the Places theme of the Overture Maps Foundation data releases.

Used under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive, Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0).

Overture's Places theme aggregates contributions from multiple upstream providers. We record the license of every contributing source on each record we keep, and we exclude any record whose sources are not all openly licensed.

Some listings incorporate data contributed to Overture by Foursquare Open Source Places.

Where we have changed a record — corrected a name, adjusted a location, or added course details — those changes are ours and are not attributable to Foursquare.

Supplementary identifiers and alternate names come from Wikidata, released into the public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal.

CC0 asks nothing of us. We name Wikidata here because being able to see where a course record came from is worth more than the minimum.

The following disclaimer accompanies the open data described above and is reproduced here as those licenses require. It concerns the upstream data providers, and is separate from the terms governing VizGolf itself, which are set out in our Terms of Service.

The data is provided on an “AS IS” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Neither the data providers nor their contributors shall be liable for damages of any kind arising from use of the data, including direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages.

Open data is not always right, and a course that closed or moved can persist in it for a while. Every course page has a report link, and corrections you send us are applied to our own records rather than pushed upstream. If something about a listing looks wrong, tell us through Support.
